Environmental Values
We believe:
God created and sustains the universe and all life, including this planet that is our habitat. The natural world, people and relationships are very good- but also broken. This brokenness is the cause of environmental degradation and related injustices. God is at work restoring all things to wholeness, health, and good relationship- and invites us to join in this work of restoration and reconnection.
Because of this belief, we're choosing to address some environmental issues.
- We planted a garden that will move us towards a healthier food system and provide access to land for local food and skills.
- We take outdoor trips to reconnect with the natural world, people, God, and ourselves.
- On Journey ‘09 we immersed ourselves in the backcountry of Maine and learned from Native Americans.
- We incorporate nature into our worship through outdoor services.
- Our environmental discussion group explored the intersection of the natural world and biblical spirituality, and helped us live out a holistic lifestyle to sustain and heal the environment.
- We are decreasing our waste by sharing a building, encouraging sustainable travel and home weatherization, and using reusable dishes.
